or how to do more when you feel like doing less
It may seem counter-intuitive but when you don't feel like you have energy to do more, you actually should do more. But not more of just anything - more of the things that matter to you, more of the things that bring you joy.
There's nothing more exhilarating than making progress towards achieving something that you're personally invested in - seeing all of those small steps that you make daily take you to the place you want to go.
so what's up with burnout?
A lot of people have a lot to say about burnout, what causes it, and how to recover from it. I think of it rather simply. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. And since we live in a physical world, this too applies to our actions.
Burnout occurs when you've spent too much time and energy in places or on things when you wanted to spend it elsewhere. You can do it for some time, but eventually it catches up to you and by then it can feel like you've lost momentum. And not only have you lost momentum, but it can also seem like you've lost the ability to increase velocity and regain it.
why doing more makes it easier to do more
We live in a physical world and we cannot escape momentum. The natural thing to want to do is to rest and recharge - and that is valuable to an extent, but it will never help regain momentum. In order to regain momentum you have to build up your consistency.
why focusing on consistency matters more than making big pushes
Consistency is what makes the greats, well, great. Putting in the daily repetitions and increasing the difficulty day by day.
If you've ever decided to do something and then put in a solid effort for a few weeks only to slow down to a crawl or give up - only to look back later and wish you hadn't given up; you know why consistency is better than big pushes.
Consistency builds momentum over time, and when you build up that pace it becomes harder to stop or quit. And that pays off big time in the long run.
That's why we believe in doing one small thing every day - harnessing the energy of one small win to propel us into another win. Creating momentum and progress with each step.
